Molecular Behavior in Small Spaces

报告内容简介:

Concave surfaces are ideal for molecular recognition studies as synthetic receptors must present complementary shapes to convex small molecule targets. This lecture describes receptors known as cavitands that use intermolecular forces and fold around their target molecules. The energetics and dynamics of the recognition event are presented, and cavitands outfitted with functional groups on their rims are shown to give rise to unusual reactivity. An example of an amine reacting with a receptor bearing an inwardly-directed aldehyde group is shown below.

个人简介:

Julius Rebek, Jr.教授1944年生于匈牙利,现为美国Scripps研究所教授,Skaggs化学生物学研究所所长,同时也是美国科学院、国家艺术与科学院、英国皇家科学院以及欧洲科学院等多院院士,是国际著名的物理有机化学家及超分子化学家,主要研究领域包括反应中间体,分子复制以及分子识别和自组装。长期担任众多学术团体的领导职务和国际著名学术期刊的编委,并获得多项科研荣誉,其中包括全球杰出科学家奖、化学先锋奖、Nicoles奖章、Prelog奖章等。在世界顶级期刊发表科研论文500余篇,其中包括5Nature11Science J. Am. Chem. Soc. (167 )
