INNOVATIVE DRUG HUNTER
An active thinker, problem-solver, team player and quick learner. Motivated medicinal chemist with extensive experience in leading drug discovery projects. Hands-on experience in design, discovery and development of small molecules against enzyme targets and ion channels. Expert in combinatorial and parallel library synthesis.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Senior Scientist
2006-present
Amgen Inc., Cambridge, Massachusetts
· Project technical leadership: Design and execution of chemistry strategy, structure-based drug design, analyze structure-activity/property relationship, evaluate and optimize synthetic route.
· Intellectual property management: Analyze competitive landscape, assess patent portfolio, develop patenting strategy and generate advantaged IP asset.
· Design and synthesize novel inhibitors for enzymes and ion channels. Apply organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry principles to library synthesis.
· Discovered a novel chemical scaffold for BACE inhibition which led to the identification of a clinical drug candidate. The contribution was recognized by an Amgen Bravo award (3 star).
Postdoctoral Fellow
2004-2006
with Professor Eric N. Jacobsen, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts
· Applied catalysis and process chemistry fundamentals to develop a catalytic process for enantioselective synthesis of chiral nitroalkanes.
Research Assistant
1999-2004
with Professor James S. Panek, Boston University, Boston, Massachusetts
· Developed a practical process for stereoselective synthesis of functionalized dihydropyrans.
· Developed a new method for asymmetric synthesis of chiral tetrahydropyridines.
· Completed total synthesis of marine macrolide callipeltoside A. Developed a Cr (VI)-catalyzed oxidative C-C bond cleavage reaction. Optimized a Rh (I)-catalyzed C-H insertion reaction.
· Completed total synthesis of quinolizidine alkaloid (-)-217A and established the absolute configuration of natural 217A.
Research Assistant
1993-1996
with Professor Jiyu Yang, West China University of Medical Sciences, Chengdu, P.R.China
· Prepared lipid-conjugated modified bovine SODs and assessed their enzymatic activity and stability.
